Introduction. Thank you for downloading AirFont 340. Airfont is set to the specifications of the General MIDI GS, that offers exceptional quality of sound for its size. Although the soundfont is 78 MB, it has the quality of a bank size of 220 MB. This bank is very versatile, you can find the recorded sounds of Roland, Yamaha, E-MU, Korg Triton and MI, as well as realistic orchestral instruments that I have found on the Internet. Because I have been dissatisfied with the results of many soundfonts off of the Internet, I present to you my personal soundfont that is designed for all types of music, whatever its genre. 2. Minimum Requirements. Any of the following Operating Systems: Windows 98 or Higher Mac OS8 or Higher Linux 256 MB RAM, 512 recommended Soundblaster Live!, Audigy, or any softsynth supporting soundfonts Giga Studio or Kontact recommended. Loading into Soundcards. Live Users: Have at least 78 MB, better to set to maximum allowed. I recommend that you unload all other soundfonts. (Editors note: the Soundblaster Live has a 32 MB limitation, that prevents the Live from playing more than 32 MB of data AT ONCE - meaning that you can load as many soundfonts as you want into the card, but when more than 32 MB of sound data are being sent to the card, some sounds will drop out). Audigy Users: Go to Programs -> Creative -> Soundblaster Audigy -> Soundfont Bank Manager. Make sure at least 78 MB of cache are available. Even considering the large file size, this is still the best bank I've ever downloaded. There are a few disappointments, such as the timpani and orchestra hits, but everything else that I previewed sounded quite superior by MIDI standards, especially the guitar, bass, and ethnic instruments. Highlights: Guitars & Basses, Shamisen, Koto, Taiko Drum Disappointments: Timpani, Orchestra Hits If I didn't already have a custom soundbank collection of my favorite patches, I would definitely use this soundfont as my default. Even still, this bank's bass and ethnic instruments will be finding their way into my favorites collection, because they're outstanding.

i m rather a noob when it comes to soundfonts, i m not doing anything really with sfs myself but merely use them to enjoy my various midi files from old ms-dos games. anyways this shall be my first and probably only "review": i have download and tried different other, much larger (and smaller) fonts too, mostly from this great site in order to find "the" perfect all-around font for game soundtrack playback. from all others i have tested the sgm-180 gave best results yet this gem surpasses it in overall, maybe with the only exception of some classical instruments as written in some review below already. my test parcours: lands of lore, doom, duke3d, rise of the triad, warcraft I and II. at least when it comes to overall enjoyment of game music soundtracks, i m waiting yet for someone to point me to anything better then this font. thanks for bringing this to us!
