Candenza Strings are pretty good for string ensemble and chamber work. Here's my breakdown: Strings: really bright with a pretty fast attack. They work great on legato passages but are a little sluggish on runs. They're loud. Keep the velocities low for balance. Violin: One of the better few, but too much vibrato and not enough tone in the high registers. Also, be careful about using this instrument with the other solo instruments. You'll be hearing vibrato waves. (Don't double this instrument; bad things happen.) A little too slow for fast passages. Viola: Expressive. Similar in style to the violin. Cello: Again, similar to the violin. I love this cello almost as much as Fluid's. It has some vibrato on it and is great for solo work. Careful in chamber pieces; the vibrato gets to you. Double Bass: Pretty decent double bass. A slower attack than I'd like. Overall, useful. They do not blend well with other string packs however and chamber pieces sound like rapid distortions in pitch from all the different rates of vibrato in the solo strings. But, it's worth the download.

I agree with the above, particularly the following points: 1. too much vibrato - thats bad, although the vibrato is well done, it catches you out in legato/non-vibrato sections. Make it larger, and provide more choice 2. does not mix easily (although it can be done) with other sound fonts in the same dynamic range.

Very "in your face" string sound. Almost too harsh to be useful. The "Strings" bank has an interesting stereo spread on it; I usually flood this with a long lofty reverb and use it for a background voice.

use heavy multilayering and therefore use much polyphony.

Very good ensemble patches, IMO, if you tone them down. The solo strings, I don't like as well.

Original Cadenza Strings Readme FIle: ======================================== "Sorry about the long delays on Cadenza. I hav been and still is very busy, but here's a little taste of what's to come in Cadenza 2. Some parts of the strings, like the Solo Cello came from other banks, and I just mix, fix, and match to provide the optimum (sorta) outcome. Tell me what you think, e-mail me at gunner1019@bigfoot.com ~joe"

I like the "strings", good feeling, although its attack sounds a little strange at fast-tempo melodies, and the upper register is too loud.
