ReviewsUser: davestew04 This may be the original readme file, but not sure.. ======================================== A special thanks goes out to Dag Sverre Seljebotn for the PatchMaker utility. Again, many thanks to the athors of all the SoundFonts I borrowed instruments from. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THIS SOUNDFONT: 1. You'll need to download and install SFPack if you don't already have it. (you can get it off of my site: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/somedude41/) 2.Back up the original 'ff7.sf2' file in your c:\program files\squaresoft\ffvii\data\midi\sf2 folder. If you installed FF7 in a folder other than c:\program files\squaresoft\ffvii, you'll find the data\midi\sf2 folder inside the folder you installed FFVII in. 3. Rename the LB2.sf2 font to something else (LB2.BAK, for example). It's in the same folder as ff7.sf2 4. Back up the AWE.LGP file (it'll be in the c:\program files\squaresoft\ffvii\data\midi, one folder up from where the other two files are.) 5. Expand the FF7.sfpack file (right click on it, go down to expand.) Copy the file you just expanded, 'ff7.sf2' (It'll be around 20 megs), to the c:\program files\squaresoft\ffvii\data\midi\sf2 folder. 6. Copy the new AWE.LGP file (it came with the ff7.sfpack file) to the c:\program files\squaresoft\ffvii\data\midi folder. 7. Open the Control Panel, and Double Click on the 'AudioHQ' Icon. When the AudioHQ window pops up, Double Click on the 'SoundFont' icon. If anything is listed in the box labeled 'Bank Stack:', select it and click the 'clear' button. 8. Click on the 'Options' Tab. Drag the Slider in the 'SoundFont Cache' box to the right, until the number to the left of it is at 24.00 MB 9. Click the close button at the bottom of that window, and then close the 'AudioHQ' Window as well as the Control Panel. 10. Open the FF7 Config program Under 'MIDI', Select 'A: SB Live! MIDI Synth' as your MIDI driver; and 'Soundfont MIDI (Creative AWE32/64)' as your MIDI Data 11. Click 'OK' at the bottom of the FFVII config Window to confirm this selection. The next time you play FFVII, you'll notice a big improvement in the quality of the music. *** Users of Windows 2000 or Windows XP consult the ReadmeXP.txt to get the SoundFont working properly. *** ReadmeXP.txt ================================================= A special thanks goes out to Dag Sverre Seljebotn for the PatchMaker utility. At the 'Select Bank' drop down box, select '001' (The default will either be 'Synth Bank' or '000'. These are not the correct bank.) 10. Click on the Load button. Navigate your way to the c:\program files\squaresoft\ffvii\data\midi\sf2 folder, and select the FF7.sf2 file you just extacted. Then hit the select button. The 'Bank stack' Window should now show that FF7 for SBLive! v 1.6 is loaded. 11. Click the close button at the bottom of that window, and then close the 'AudioHQ' Window as well as the Control Panel. 12. Open the FF7 Config program Under 'MIDI', Select 'A: SB Live! The next time you play FFVII, you'll notice a big improvement in the quality of the music. ======================================================== [Explaination of Version 1.0] Some of the instruments are from the 8 meg soundfont that comes with the SBLive! card. I pretty much started with that font, took out all the percusives and sound effects, and all the un-neccessary instruments. Most of the percusives are from the original FF7.sf2 font, but part of 'FF7 Percussive' kit came from Jari Huttunen's Timber Soundfont. Several of the melodic instruments (most of the woodwinds, and a few others) also came from Timber. The percussive organ in 'Still More Fighting' came from some SoundFonts I downloaded at Hammersound.net Most of the instruments in banks 1-8 came from the original FF7.sf2, along with the tubular bells and Electric Piano. [differences in version 1.1] -Added a really cool Overdriven guitar from Timber to J-E-N-O-V-A (finally fixing that crappy Synth Vox instrument) -Added a few of the instruments from the original FF7 soundfont (made it sound better.) -Added a couple better pianos. -Fixed the FF7 Percussives. Now the Shinra theme sounds right. [Differences in version 1.2] -Fixed the Oboe volume problem. Now it doesn't sound overpowering in 'The Highwind Takes to the Skies' -Added the original Synth bass for 'The Great Northern Cave', because the one I had didn't sound good. -Added better strings for 'Hurry, Faster!' and 'Reunion', now they sound more like they should. [Differences in Version 1.3] CHANGES MADE TO SOUNDFONT -Fixed an error where 'Honey Bee Manor' used 'J-E-N-O-V-A''s guitar and sounded pretty bad. -Added The Percussion Organ from Sam Slight's FF8 DLS (version 1.35) for 'Still More Fighting' -Removed the Clarinet that served as the square wave in 'Still More Fighting', re-assigned that to the 'J-E-N-O-V-A' Overdriven guitar CHANGES MADE TO MIDIS pj.mid (Jenova Absolute) - re-assigned the strings to more realistic sounding strings. chu.mid (Still More Fighting) - re-assigned instrument '001-080 SMF-Clar' to instrument '004-085 CHU2-OGuitar' aseri2.mid (Hurry Faster!) - reassigned some of the instruments to better sounding ones. chu2.mid (J-E-N-O-V-A) - re-mapped the Overdriven guitar to its new place in the SoundFont. [Differences in Version 1.4] CHANGES MADE TO SOUNDFONT - added the brass ensemble in 'J-E-N-O-V-A'. Before, that instrument was so quiet it sounded like it wasn't playing. - put in an entirely new main drum kit, basically taken from Unison. (The snares are from Atomic, and the 2 instruments in 'Shinra, Inc' are from the original FF7 Font.) - The Square wave in 'Still More Fighting' was finally replaced with an actual square wave. (taken from Samuel Slights FF7 patch.) -Added a nice new slow strings, compliments of Samuel Slight's FF7 XG patch. -Added a nice new Oboe, from Unison. -Added a nice new Fingered bass (a YAMAHA TRB-5) -Replaced the Over driven Guitar in 'J-E-N-O-V-A' with an instrument that sounds much more like the one in the PSX version. CHANGES MADE TO MIDIS chu.mid - Did some volume adjustment chu2.mid - Major volume adjustments earis.mid (Aeris' Theme) - Increased the volume of the Piano hiku.mid (Highwind Takes to the Skies) - Decreased the volume of the Oboe (the new oboe was just too loud in this song.) kurai.mid (Anxious Heart) - Re-directed the Strings sid2.mid (Cid's Theme) - Re-directed the Synth Vox to the Ahh Choir. -Turned down the bass for several songs ('Opressed People', Wutai's Theme, Cait Sith's Theme 'Electric De Chocobo', 'Hurry!', and 'Lurking in the Darkness') because it was sickeningly loud. CHANGED FOR 1.41 -I don't think this warrants the release of a whole new version (hence the 1.41 instead of 1.5), but I recorded samples of the YAMAHA SoftSynth's Percussion Organ (That really cool one it uses in Still More Fighting) and put it into my SoundFont. [Differences in version 1.5] CHANGES MADE TO SOUNDFONT -Added a better Square Wave for 'Still More Fighting'. CHANGES MADE TO MIDIs chu.mid - Edited the Square Wave track to get the modulation effect (basically, copy and paste from the YAMAHA version.) makoro.mid (Mako Reactor) - Turned up the volume on the Saw wave. Now you can hear it. siera.mid (If You Open Your Heart) - did some volume adjustments (mainly the flute.) date.mid (Interrupted by Fireworks) - Turned up the volume on the flute. [Differences in verion 1.6] The only change made between version 1.5 and 1.6 is the incorporation of lb2.sf2 into the ff7.sf2 file. 'One Winged Angel' will now play fine without having to load the lb2.sf2 file. (Note: I did not "fix" any of the "issues" with 'One Winged Angel', so don't expect it to sound more like the psx or better . . . it sounds the same as it did in previous versions of this SoundFont.) | ||||
